Celebrate the holidays and see Santa at the Christmas parade, stop by local businesses for holiday gifts, tour the holiday lights, take a twirl at the contra dance, go for a winter hike, and more!

November 25 - Small Business Saturday, Shop local!
November/December - Pick your own Christmas tree! Did you know? Fraser firs, often called "the Cadillac of Christmas trees," are native to only a small region of Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee at elevations above 4,500 feet. Whether you go to a local choose-and-cut farm around Whitetop or find a pre-cut tree near town, you can pick your very own Christmas tree to take home and decorate for the holidays.
December 1 to 31 - Holiday Lights Tour throughout Damascus - Walk, bike or drive to tour the lights!
To enter the Holiday Lights Decorating Contest: Have decorations ready on December 6 at 7pm. Winners will be determined by the beautification committee and announced on December 8. Anyone within town limits is eligible to win (no entry form required). Prizes for winners of each category: Best in Show, Best in Show: Business, and Most Lights.
December 1 - A Trail Town Christmas Parade at 7pm in downtown Damascus, featuring a Parade Float Contest and the Damascus Loves Dogs Holiday Costume Contest. The parade will be led by the Clydesdale team of Bart Long & Associates Realty and Auction, LLC. Santa will be at the Fire Hall after the parade. To participate in the parade, please email clerk@damascus.org with the Entry Form at the bottom of the page by November 30.
December 1 & 2 - Shop 'Til You Drop event at the Trail Town Event Center (108 West Laurel Ave). Shop from various local artisans - candles, leather products, custom jewelry, wreaths, artwork, embroidery and more. Food by Alvin Eatz and Mitzi Sweetz. Open on Friday December 1 from 11am to 9pm and Saturday December 2 from 11am to 8pm
December 2 - In the Country Christmas Crafts at the Damascus Library from 1 to 3pm. Choose from a variety of ornamental craft ideas for the holiday season. We’ll provide all the materials you need to make them! These free crafts are made with natural and rustic materials for that “In the Country” look and feel. DIY at the library this December and wow your friends and family with your new country crafts.
December 2 - Live music by Bryan Osborne and the Ash Mountain Boys at the Damascus Brewery at 7pm
December 7 - Peppermint Sugar Scrub at the Damascus Library at 4pm. Make your own peppermint sugar scrub and give it to yourself or a friend just in time for the holiday season!
December 8 - Live music by Lily Comer at Appalachian Heritage Distillery at 5:30pm
December 15 - Live music by Vogan Thompson at Appalachian Heritage Distillery at 5:30pm
December 15 - Trail Town Twirl Contra Dance at the Rock School Auditorium (held quarterly; 2024 dates: March 22, June 21, September 20), Dance from 8 to 11pm, beginners' lesson beforehand at 7pm; dance called by Warren Doyle, live folk music; open to all ages and experience levels.
December 16 - Chestnuts Roasting Program with the American Chestnut Foundation (TACF) at the Damascus Trail Center at 6pm. Join TACF for the inspirational story of the American Chestnut tree and its importance to American culture. Experience the flavor of chestnuts when you taste one for yourself!
December 23 - Live music by Logan Fritz and McKenna at the Damascus Brewery at 7pm
December 30 - Live music by Cody Kennedy at the Damascus Brewery at 7pm
December 31 - New Year's Eve Party with live music by Graysin Slade at the Damascus Brewery at 8pm. Free snacks and drink specials all night long and a free complimentary champagne toast at midnight.
January 1 - First Day Hike at Virginia State Parks - Find a ranger led hike or choose your own adventure at nearby Grayson Highlands State Park or Hungry Mother State Park. Enjoy free parking at state parks on January 1st.

At 11am: Morning worship including candlelight service at First Baptist Church (306 East Laurel Ave).
